This tablet has changed the way I work with my images in post-processing. Everything from edge refinement, creating precise masks, dodge and burn and so on, becomes easier and more precise. Everybody is used to writing with a pencil. It is much more relaxing and natural for your arm and hand, which you can also see in the final results.
There are 2048 levels of pen pressure sensitivity in the pen tip as well as in the eraser. This means that i.e. in Photoshop, the harder you press down on the tablet with the pen, the thicker the brush gets. Press, tilt or lightly move the pen across the tablet, and Photoshop or most other graphic or photo editing software will recognize it and change the brush or pencil tool accordingly. It is simply just as fluid as writing with a pen or brush. No mouse can mimic this. It does take a little time to get used to using it. Within a couple of weeks, you will get the hang of it. However, when you remember all the times where you were you could be as precise as you wished, when making corrections using the mouse for controlling a brush, or creating a selection, you will be happy about the switch to a Wacom tablet.
The buttons are customizable down to each specific software you use the Wacom tablet with.
As you build your skills as a photographer, you will want to refine your post-processing skills to a level of perfection. This means a lot more work with creating precise masks or dodging and burning. Without a graphic tablet, you will put a lot of strain on both your hand and your patience, until you get it right. A mouse is quite difficult to control when you need to i.e. remove the halo artifact that can come from sharpening. With a graphic tablet like the Wacom Intuos Pro it really becomes much easier to achieve good results and faster once you get used to using it.
Be careful not to buy a too small graphic tablet as the tablet to screen ratio can get so big, that the cursor will jump on the screen, making it even more difficult to use than a mouse. So avoid the small ones, unless you have a small screen for your computer. I use the medium tablet size for my 27″ iMac.
The Wacom Intuos Pro Pen and Touch Tablet also allow you to use common gestures known from smartphones. This means that you can zoom, navigate or scroll around as you edit your photo with multi-touch surface and gestures. The tablet often comes with a wireless kit included or it can be bought separately.
